So, to get me in the weekend mood and to avoid housework, I decided to tackle a little job which I've been meaning to do for some time. How many of you still use a dictionary? No, not spell-check on the computer, a proper book of the paper variety? I do. All the time. I'm a little stuck in my ways like that. I have a favourite little Collins Gem Dictionary which I always flip through if I need to check the meaning of an unfamiliar word, or to make sure my spelling is polished when writing! This little book has been well used, and was looking a little forlorn...A fresh new look is what it needed...
When I grew up in South Africa, it was a strict school rule that all school books should be neatly covered in paper AND plastic. Drawing on my experience of sitting for hours covering school books as a youngster, I set to work. I found the loveliest self-adhesive fabric paper from Papermania, in a vintage inspired print. So easy to use, and mess free!
After re-covering the little book, and mending the spine, I added a re-purposed belt buckle (well, half of it!) as embellishment.
And the little Collins Gem Dictionary now has a new lease of life!
Now, when I check how to spell 'unnecessary' for the millionth time, I can use my little Gem without it looking like a cubic zirconia instead of a diamond...sad and neglected!
Happy Friday to you! And a super weekend to all!

Ooh what a lovely little makeover Tania! I LoVe that fabric paper stuff and the buckle makes it look extra special. I have a little rhyme from school for spelling necessary - Never Eat Celery Eat Salad Sandwiches And Remain Young :) I always say it to myself when I spell it :) just stick the un in front :)

Hi Victoria! Ha-ha! That little rhyme is great! I don't think I'll need the dictionary to double-check THAT word anymore! Hope you're enjoying sunshine where you are! Hugs, Tania x
DeleteI was taught to think of a shirt when spelling necessary. One Collar, two Sleeves!
