A weekend break in York...

Hello m'lovelies! Those of you who follow me on Instagram will know that hubby and I have had a most marvellous, wonderful weekend away in York. Yes, so sorry to have high jacked your Instagram feeds! I have so much to tell you! For those of you who have never been to this town, rich in it's Viking heritage, I can highly recommend a visit. Now, we did not set off to explore the historic richness of this picturesque town. Oh no sirree! We hankered after a frivolous, kidlet-free weekend, exploring the vintage shopping scene, and a few late nights eating and drinking our way through the cobbled streets!

Our home for the weekend! 'The Royal', York...

...beautiful old building, and what an entrance!

Hubby and I, ready for a night on the town!

York has so much to offer...
Food, glorious food!

The Shambles...voted one of the prettiest streets in the UK. So quaint!

Shopping heaven! Lots of 'ooh-ing and 'aah-ing'...Let's step back in time...

'Purple Haze', a wonderful vintage clothing store, for both men and women!

...spoilt for choice!

Superb vintage finds at 'The Vintage Emporium'...Unfortunately, the York store will be closing at the end of July, but Harrogate is not far...

Glitz and glamour at 'Molly Browns'...

'Give the dog a bone'...a quirky gift shop, for gifts that are a little different, and a bit of pop culture. And, very stylish, helpful shop assistants! Thank you ladies!

And my favourite find of all...'The Flax and Twine'...don't miss a visit to this beautiful shop, brimming with prettiness and superb vintage goodness!

Hubby treated me to a bit of 'Greengate'...
Happy girl!

And what would a jolly weekend be without a few cocktails? Cheers!

Or a glass of wine? Or two...?

Sigh...so sorry it had to end...
But, we came home in good spirits. Guess who came back with us?

Let the music play!

Wowzer...Where has that last week gone?  It's just whizzed by in a hurry! I had eager intentions of keeping up a regular schedule here in Blog Land, but have just not managed it! But, it's been a wonderful week full of blessings! We were very fortunate to have the Watoto Children's Choir visiting from Uganda, and had the privilege of having a few of the children stay with us in our home. It's wasn't a first for us, and we were giddy with excitement at the prospect of having these young ambassadors staying with us. The children are all rescued orphans who have seen and experienced more heartache in their young lives than any person should ever have to endure. But, thanks to the ministry of Watoto, they have all been given hope and a future. You should hear them sing! They travel all over the world, so if they're ever in your neck of the woods, don't pass up the opportunity to go and see them. It will change your life!

So, at the end of such a wonderful, busy week, we have spent the weekend relaxing at home. Summer is finally winking at us with the promise of warmer, happier days, so it was only fitting to squeeze in the first proper visit to the boot sales! And I didn't come away disappointed! In fact, I hopped, skipped and jumped excitedly towards my car with my loot which to me felt like Christmas morning! I have been keeping my eyes peeled for a long time for a lovely record player, as I already own a few vinyl lovelies that were just chomping at the bit to belt out a tune. Well, today was my day...Just look what came home with me!

Now, for all you vintage purists out there...no, this is not a vintage piece. But, it is tippety-toppety marvelous!  It plays CD's, tapes (hmmm...yip, now THAT is retro!), radio and of course vinyl records! It does everything that I could possibly ask it to do, and more! So, the kids and I have spent the afternoon listening to 'The Sound of Music', and a record from 1967...'Jungle Book'...and of course a little bit of Doris Day!

Apart from striking gold with my newly acquired musical friend, this girl's wardrobe is singing hallelujahs too! Not one, but two tickety-boo pairs...Brand spanking new, and only a few bob!

As well as this Twiggy number...

And for my crafty soul...lovely Cath fabric and ribbon...just a few pennies later! Sigh...

What a super thrifty day! The best part of it all...this thrifty soul is singing out loud! I managed to sell off an old chair that we all just kept tripping over...lovely as it was it had to go! So, my new found bargains were funded by the chair! Happy days!

Hope your weekend has been restful, joyful, and full of blessings too!

Stepping back in time to the 1940's!

Every year in August, people travel from near and far to Ramsey in Cambridgeshire, and for one weekend they all step back in time to the 1940's.  Some bring their caravans and stay for the weekend, whilst others like us dip in and out of it, participating in all that's on offer. We visited for the day yesterday, and I can honestly say that it was one of the best days we've ever had!

'The Camp' is transformed into a vintage lovers paradise, with some of the finest vintage cars on display. For those who love to wear clothes from the 1930's through to 1950's, the selection to shop from is vast! I was considering buying a wheelbarrow, just to lift my jaw from the floor and wheel it around, as I was absolutely agog at the array of vintage loveliness that met the eye! Of course wartime Britain is the main theme that runs throughout, so the military displays do not disappoint.  Re-enactments by finely-dressed participants are all part of the fun. There was music, oh, fine music, and dancing, fashion shows, a Crufts dog show (1940's style of course!), and even the sky lent us it's best with flights from wartime planes such as a Hurricane and Spitfire. Of course I snapped away like an over-excited tourist, and I'd love to show you some of the scenes we enjoyed. I warn you...this is a picture heavy post!

And of course, shopping heaven!

I have really just shared snippets from our day. There was so much to see, I couldn't possibly include everything! If you are ever able to attend, I can highly recommend it! It's a fabulously, well organised event, with something for everyone. There were fun fair rides for the children, lovely food, tank rides, cinema with films from the era, and so much more. I hope you enjoyed taking this little trip into history with me!

Blessings, Tania ♥♥♥
